The Johnson House Project
Preserving A Piece of Colorado History
We recently had an amazing opportunity helping redesign the interior of one of Central City, Colorado’s historical homes, The Johnson House, owned by Central City Opera. Central City Opera was founded in 1932 and is the fifth oldest opera company in the country. Renowned for its exquisite world class productions, the company also owns and maintains 28 Victoria-era inspired properties. These homes make up the largest piece of historically held properties in the state of Colorado. ASID Colorado and Luxe Magazine worked together on this Historical Designer Showhouse. And what an event it was as 22 Designers came together with the help of Industry Partners and completely transformed this darling home!
RDK Design and Build completed the Entry and Stairway Design portion of the home. The Entry is the “First Impression” room and also was the liason to the Porch, Living Room, Upstairs Living and Dining Room so we had a lot of design decisions and elements that came into play in our own creative design decisions for this project. We wanted to be the WOW to those who entered, yet needed to flow with the adjoining spaces. A neutral victorian palette combined with the history captured in the reproduction of original photo’s of performers, designers and architects worked perfectly. Original frames and a mirror were restored to it’s original state and used to create a wall gallery that everyone who enters can enjoy. Updated wallpaper, wainscot, new carpet, fresh paint and stain and a restored original front door and and parquet floor completed transformed this space.
